Kate Biese Joins Nghiem Lab Research Team
The UW Division of Dermatology is pleased to welcome Kate Biese (she/her) as a Research Study Coordinator in the Nghiem Lab. Kate officially joined the research team on Nov. 16, 2022. She will support the Nghiem Lab’s ongoing study of Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) and conduct patient outcomes research.

Kate Biese
Originally from Seattle, Kate Biese (she/her) graduated from the University of Washington in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in Medical Anthropology and Global Health, and a minor in Bioethics. Prior to joining the Nghiem Lab, Kate helped ensure a high-quality patient experience as the Lead Patient Access Representative for the Radiology Department at the Kaiser Permanente Capitol Hill campus. In addition to excelling in her studies, as an undergraduate Kate balanced several research and leadership responsibilities through her sorority and the university.
Kate has previous experience working in a laboratory environment. As an undergraduate, she joined the UW Department of Global Health as a Student Laboratory Assistant in the laboratory of Olusegun Soge, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor for the UW Department of Global Health and the UW Division of Allergy & Infectious Diseases. Dr. Soge oversees the UW Neisseria Reference Laboratory at Harborview Medical Center which participates in clinical work and research with antimicrobial susceptibility on Neisseria gonorrhea among other STI’s. Kate’s undergraduate research project involved creating antimicrobial susceptibility profiles among E. coli isolates from Kenya.
In her free time, Kate enjoys trying new food, getting outside, and training for and competing in various athletic events such as trail runs and triathlons.
