Dr. Amoreth Gozo Joins UW Dermatology Faculty
Please join us in welcoming back our former resident, Amoreth Gozo, MD, (she/her/hers) to the Department of Dermatology as an Acting Assistant Professor and dermatologist based at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System (Seattle VA Medical Center).
At the VA, Dr. Gozo will see medical dermatology patients, deliver teledermatology services, run the new laser medicine program, and participate in resident teaching.
Dr. Gozo’s clinical and research interests include health education, skin of color, teledermatology, procedural and laser dermatology, tropical and HIV dermatology, and working with medically underserved communities. As a US Navy veteran and former Military Medical Officer, she brings invaluable experience that uniquely qualifies her to care for our veteran patient population at the VA.
Dr. Gozo joins us after recently graduating from UW Dermatology’s residency program in 2024. During her residency training, Dr. Gozo was widely known for her consistent “can-do” spirit, and high attention to detail. She is deeply committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, and dismantling institutional barriers.
In 2023, Dr. Gozo earned a grant from the AAD to participate in an international rotation at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa, where she expanded her knowledge in tropical and HIV dermatology. During her residency, Dr. Gozo was a highly engaged member of UW Dermatology’s Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) and Volunteerism Committees. As a member of the JEDI Committee, she coordinated our department’s first annual resident panel for medical students across the country, with a focus on underrepresented groups in dermatology.
Dr. Gozo earned her BS in Biomedical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2011. She earned her MD (Cum Laude) at Morehouse School of Medicine in 2016. After earning her MD, Dr. Gozo completed her Internal Medicine Internship in 2017 at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
From 2017-2019, Dr. Gozo served as a General Medical Officer at the Naval Hospital Pensacola. As a GMO, Dr. Gozo served as a Corpsman Educator—providing continuous training and education to over 40 corpsmen. She then served as a Senior Medical Officer and Department Head of Health Services Department onboard the USS Anchorage (LPD-23) in San Diego, Calif. from 2019-2021. Dr. Gozo came to the University of Washington in 2021 to start her dermatology residency and graduated from the program in 2024.
Outside of work, Dr. Gozo enjoys traveling, hiking, crafting, exploring new restaurants, visiting Disneyland and Disney World, and spending quality time with her family, husband, and dog.
With her unwavering optimism and proactive mindset, Dr. Gozo is sure to serve our veterans with excellence and inspire a positive outlook within our department. We are excited to support her continued growth as an educator and physician here at UW Dermatology!
