Derm Resident Dr. Amoreth Gozo Awarded International Rotation through AAD
Congratulations to second-year dermatology resident Amoreth Gozo, MD, who recently earned a grant from the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) to participate in an international rotation at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. Dr. Gozo will rotate from July to August 2023.
“I was interested in this grant to learn more about HIV/KS-related diseases, international medicine and how medicine is conducted with potentially limited resources, says Dr. Gozo. “I look forward to exchanging knowledge with other residents, interacting with patients and learning more about South Africa's culture.”
Each year the AAD provides resident international grant funding for 12 US and Canadian upper level dermatology residents to participate in one of four international electives in countries including Botswana, Nepal, Peru and South Africa.
The grant gives residents an opportunity to learn about the care of tropical and HIV-related dermatologic conditions as well as how to practice routine dermatology with finite resources. Residents are expected to prepare lectures and presentations, develop a database of photos, submit teledermatology consults, and present reports of their activities to the Academy and their home programs.
