Dr. Mario Lacouture Speaks on Oncodermatology
2026 Robert A. Pommerening Memorial Lecture

The UW Department of Dermatology hosted its annual lecture on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the UW Tower. The event brought together faculty, trainees, alumni, and members of the dermatology community to hear Dr. Mario Lacouture give the keynote address on "Oncodermatology: Advancing Cancer Care Through Skin Health.”
Dr. Mario Lacouture is the Chief of Dermatology at NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine, the Medical Director of the Symptom Management Program at Perlmutter Cancer Center, and the Chief of Dermatology at NYU Langone Health. Dr. Lacouture's presentation emphasized collaboration between oncologists and dermatologists to improve patients' quality of life through early-intervention protocols.
Resident Presentations: Patient Cases
The program began with five patient case presentations by second-year dermatology residents:
Nora Alexander, MD - “Rapidly Progressive Retiform Purpura in a Patient with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia”
Ayushi Gautam, MD - "Innumerable cutaneous FDG-avid lesions…and none on the skin…"
Karun Kiani, MD, PhD - “The tissue is the issue: a case of pediatric scleroderma-myositis overlap syndrome”
Stephen Kirchner, MD, PhD - “Leflunomide Induced DIHS/HLH In A 14 Year Old”
Fatuma-Ayaan Rinderknecht, MD, MS - “An Atypical Presentation of Tinea”
Held each October, the Pommerening Memorial Lecture celebrates the Department’s commitment to education and excellence in dermatology. The event highlights accomplishments from the past year, notable case discussions, and welcomes a distinguished guest lecturer to share their expertise on a topic of clinical or academic interest.
Phil Fleckman Endowed Fund for Nail Disorder Research and Care

At this year's event, the department also shared about a giving opportunity - the Phil Fleckman Endowed Fund for Nail Disorder Research and Care. Dr. Fleckman was a beloved faculty member and pioneer in the treatment of nail disease who passed away in 2023, and the fund was created to honor his legacy. This fund supports the Department of Dermatology, including research and care in nail and related disorders. It has a focus on nail education and improving the care of people with nail disease.
