Residency Program Volunteering with Food Lifeline
Several residents, staff and program leadership, including Program Director Dr. Roy and Associate Program Directors Drs. Boos and Maier, took a much needed wellness outing this week to volunteer for Food Lifeline.
Food Lifeline is a non-profit organization that works to end hunger in Western Washington. Food Lifeline provides the equivalent of 134,000 meals every single day.by partnering with food industry leaders to source nutritious foods and then supplying over 300 food banks, shelters, and meal programs throughout the region. As the root causes of hunger, Food Lifeline works to address systemic inequity and social injustice "through advocacy advocacy efforts to shape local, state, and federal policy, by partnering with organizations that are addressing other causes of poverty, and through community engagement and mobilization efforts."
The UW Derm residency program group, or the appropriately nicknamed "Team Squash", arrived at the South Seattle Food Lifeline warehouse ready to work. Team Squash packed more than 1 TON of squash into shipping size boxes and sorted spaghetti and baked goods into meal packages for distribution throughout Western Washington.
The Education Staff group, or "Team Potato", each sorted and packed enough potatoes to feed 600 families.
"It was nice join forces and get out of our bubbles to do physical work together for a cause." - Dr. Roy
