UW Derm Welcomes Six New Faculty Members
The University of Washington Division of Dermatology welcomed six new faculty members, including four former residents, in 2021 and 2022 to continue our mission to serve patients, educate and inspire trainees and propel our research mission. Welcome Drs. Josiah Hanson, Caitlin May, Benji Perin, Cory Simpson, S. Max Vale, and Tanya Greywal!
Josiah Hanson
Dr. Josiah Hanson, former UW Derm co-chief resident, is a board-certified dermatologist at UW Medical Center's Roosevelt Dermatology Clinic, the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and Acting Instructor in the Division of Dermatology. Dr. Hanson officially began on August 1, 2021. Originally from Saint Paul, Minnesota, he received his MD from the UW School of Medicine. During his residency, Dr. Hanson developed an interest in dermatopathology and has conducted research on PRAME expression in non-pigmented skin cancers. In 2022, he will begin a fellowship in dermatopathology at the University of Pennsylvania’s Geisinger Medical Center. Learn More about Dr. Hanson.
Caitlin May
Dr. Caitlin May received her MD from the UW School of Medicine, where she served as chief resident in the Dermatology Residency Program from 2016-2017, in addition to completing a fellowship in dermatopathology. From 2018-2019, she served as a consultant dermatopathologist at Dorevitch Pathology in Melbourne, Australia. She is actively involved in research regarding the histologic diagnosis of the spectrum of melanocytic lesions. On Sept. 1, 2021, Dr. May joined UW Derm as a Clinical Assistant Professor and board-certified dermatologist for the Teledermatology Program at the Puget Sound VA Health Care System and dermatopathologist at Dermatopathology Northwest. Benji Perin 
Dr. Benji Perin, former UW Dermatology resident, officially started as an Acting Instructor in the UW Medicine Division of Dermatology on Sept. 26, 2021. Dr. Perin will be treating patients as a board-certified dermatologist at the VA/American Lake Medical Center. Prior to receiving his MD from the UW School of Medicine, he taught humanities for several years at a local Seattle high school. Dr. Perin’s research and clinical interests include skin microbiome/therapeutic manipulation of skin microbiota in inflammatory disease, pediatric dermatology, equity in access to specialty medical care, and humanities in medicine. Cory Simpson
Dr. Cory Simpson officially began as an Assistant Professor and Researcher in the UW Medicine Division of Dermatology on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021. Dr. Simpson will be treating patients as a board-certified dermatologist at UW Medical Center's Roosevelt Dermatology Clinic. Dr. Simpson received his MD and PhD in Cell Biology from Northwestern University in Chicago. After his residency in dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Simpson spent several years as a Clinical Instructor at Penn’s Perelman School of Medicine in Philadelphia. Dr. Simpson is set to launch a research laboratory at the UW in 2021 to study epidermal differentiation and how it is compromised in dermatologic disease. The Simpson Lab

S. Max Vale 
Dr. S. Max Vale, former UW Dermatology co-chief resident, officially started as an Acting Instructor in the UW Medicine Division of Dermatology on August 16, 2021. In addition to teaching, Dr. Vale is a board-certified dermatologist at the UW Medical Center's Roosevelt Dermatology Clinic and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Dr. Vale is a native of Columbia, Missouri and received his MD from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine. His clinical interests include general medical dermatology for adult and pediatric populations, skin surgery, and cosmetic dermatology, with a special interest in LGBTQ health. As a former chief resident, Dr. Vale has served on a number of committees as well as worked to revamp aspects of the resident training curriculum. Learn more about Dr. S. Max Vale.

Tanya Greywal
UW Dermatology will welcome Tanya Greywal, MD, FAAD, (she/her), to the division on Feb. 1, 2022. Dr. Greywal will see patients as a dermatologist at UW Medical Center’s Roosevelt Dermatology Center, the UW Medicine Eastside Specialty Center
Dr. Greywal earned her MD from the University of California San Diego and an MBA from the UC San Diego’s Rady School of Management. Upon receiving her MD, Dr. Greywal completed a residency in dermatology at UC San Diego where she also served as Chief Resident in the Department of Dermatology. Her post-graduate training also includes an internship in Internal Medicine from the University of New Mexico. Learn more about Dr. Greywal.
