What is next for you after graduation?

I will be moving to Chicago to complete a 1 year fellowship in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology as well as Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery at Northwestern University.

What are your future career goals?

My primary career goal is to deliver comprehensive care in both oncologic and cosmetic dermatology. Through my fellowship, I hope to develop my skills in skin cancer management and advanced reconstruction, as well as refine my aesthetic surgical skills. Beyond fellowship, I am still deciding which healthcare setting might work best for me.

What do you value most about your training experience at UW Dermatology?

The heart of this program is its people. This residency has shown me how much it cares about each residents’ personal and professional growth and it has been a joy and truly enriching experience to work with every single person at UW Dermatology - all of whom have shaped the physician I am today.

What accomplishments in residency are you most proud of?

I am proud that I finished my PhD, matched into fellowship, had the opportunity to serve as chief resident with the powerhouse that is Dr. Lindsay Gunnell, and was able to continue mentorship of interested residents and students in Dermatology as well as foreign students hoping to match into the US.

Who were your mentors and how did they support you?

It really does take a village and this is by no means an exhaustive list but some standout mentors for me at UW include:

Markus Boos: I cannot imagine my residency journey without him. He is a true example of leading with your heart and has shown up to support me and further my goals in more ways than I could have imagined.

Steph Timm: The heartbeat of our program. She never once hesitated to further my experience as a resident and check in on me during challenging times. She is a true friend and one of the kindest people you will ever have the pleasure of meeting.

Jeremy Kampp: Not only did I learn multiple precious surgical pearls from Dr. Kampp, he gave me the confidence to practice these in real time. Dr. Kampp also fully supported my journey into a Mohs surgery fellowship and I will be forever grateful for that.

Wesley Wu: Dr. Wu has been hugely impactful in my journey into Mohs surgery. He was the first surgeon willing to conduct research projects with me and has consistently kept his OR door open for me to join in on his cases. I feel lucky that I got the chance to learn from his exceptional expertise during my time as a resident.

Danny Berg: What a gift of a surgical teacher that we have in Dr. Berg. He has been consistently willing to give up his time to teach no matter the hour or the day and was a huge support to me when I applied into Mohs fellowship.

Meredith Sheedy and Rob Sidbury: My OG mentors since I was a first year Dermatology resident who never missed an opportunity to check in with me and cheerlead my endeavors.

Jennifer Reichel and Erica Linnell: Two of my greatest role models who listened to my many musings about my pursuit of a career in procedural Dermatology, offering an abundance of critical advice along the way. I am inspired by their approach to life and patient care and hope to one day be just like them!
