GRADUATE q&a

Hometown: Vancouver, BC

Undergraduate School:  University of British Columbia

Undergraduate Major: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy

Medical School: University of British Columbia

Residency: University of Washington

What is next for you after graduation?

I will be joining Sanford Health in Fargo, North Dakota and signing out mostly dermatopathology cases.

What did you value most about your fellowship training experience at UW Derm?

I really valued learning from a mixture of pathology-trained and dermatology-trained dermatopathologists, and getting such a hand-on experience rotating through the dermatology clinics.

Who were your mentors and how did they support you?

Every dermatopathology faculty member at UW has been a great mentor for me and helped shape how I will practice dermatopathology in the future. This is especially true for Dr. Shinohara who has mentored me since the start of my residency. I've truly learned so much and really appreciate all their help!

What advice would you share with incoming dermpath fellows?

Have a lot of fun and savor the busyness of the year. It will fly by so quickly and you'll learn so much.

What’s your favorite story or memory from your dermpath fellowship that you still think about?

Definitely the different personalities from the attendings. It's been fun listening to Dr. George say "Shabam!" when he's ready to sign out a case, learning interesting facts about rural Midwest living from Dr. Hanson, and getting shown photos of cute cats as mental health breaks from Dr. Shinohara during sign-out.
