Stephanie Binick Appointed Director of Phototherapy, Wins Cares Award

UW Dermatology is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephanie Binick, DNP-FNP, ARNP, DNC, as Director of Phototherapy at UW Medicine, effective August 31, 2023.

Stephanie BinickAs Director, Stephanie will manage day-to-day operations for the Phototherapy Unit at the UW Medical Center–Roosevelt Dermatology Center, in addition to developing strategies to enhance our capabilities and expand access to phototherapy services in our region.

Stephanie brings a wealth of knowledge to her new role with over 15 years of nursing experience at UW Medicine. She currently works as a board-certified Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) at the Roosevelt Dermatology Center. Last year, Stephanie graduated with her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the UW School of Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner Program, and officially joined the UW Dermatology faculty team as our division’s very first Teaching Associate. 

We want to express our sincere appreciation to Andrea Kalus, MD for her steady leadership as Director of Phototherapy over the past seven years. Dr. Kalus has been instrumental to the success and growth of phototherapy services at UW Medicine. We are grateful for Dr. Kalus’ wise counsel, collaborative spirit, and tireless dedication to our clinic team.

UW Medicine Cares Award 

We are equally excited to share that Stephanie has been selected to receive the UW Medicine Cares Award for Spring 2023!

The Cares Award was established in 2013 to formally recognize and celebrate the accomplishments and excellences of those in the UW Medicine community who consistently exemplify the UW Medicine Service Culture Guidelines which demonstrate our commitment to placing the needs of patients and families first.

Staff, faculty, patients, and community members are eligible to nominate a UW Medicine healthcare professional, staff member or a care team that has made a difference in patient care or the work environment. Recipients are selected by the UW Medicine Patients are First Reward and Recognition Committee and the UW Medicine Cares Award Committee at UW Medical Center.

"Stephanie has been in dermatology for years, and she is welcoming, approaches every new staff member with kindness and respect. She is a wealth of knowledge, and is always willing to answer questions or lend a listening ear. Stephanie worked here as a staff nurse, and came back as ARNP- truly a role model for education! Stephanie is truly a star, and dermatology is lucky to have her."
