Biography

Dr. Cortez earned his Bachelor of Arts in Molecular Biology from Pitzer College in Claremont, California, in 2014. He completed a Master of Science in Health and Medical Sciences through the Joint Medical Program at the University of California, Berkeley, in 2018 and received his Medical Doctorate from the University of California, San Francisco in 2021. Following medical school, Dr. Cortez completed an Internal Medicine internship at Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center from 2021-2022 before pursuing a Dermatology residency at the University of New Mexico, where he served as chief resident. He completed his fellowship in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Dr. Cortez has clinical expertise in dermatologic surgery, cutaneous oncology, and Mohs micrographic surgery. His advanced fellowship training at Mayo Clinic has further strengthened his experience in managing complex skin cancers and performing reconstructive surgery.
