Course Description
Students on this rotation will be in an outpatient dermatology clinic in a large private practice with exposure to general, pediatric, cosmetic, and surgical dermatology. May include significant focus on surgical dermatology and micrographic (Mohs) surgery.

Goals & Objectives
- Use the language of dermatology to effectively and accurately describe skin conditions or lesions.
- Complete a focused history, physical examinations, and oral and written presentations of a patient presenting with a dermatologic complaint in the outpatient setting.
- Outline a basic approach to the diagnosis and management of common skin conditions including atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and seborrheic dermatitis.
- Apply the basic principles and practice of oral and topical dermatologic therapy including the appropriate use of emollients, topical steroids, antipruritic therapies, and systemic immunosuppressants.
- Correctly identify common birthmarks such as infantile hemangiomas, capillary malformations, dermal melanocytosis; outline basic management plans including active nonintervention, topical and systemic beta blockers, laser procedures.
- Correctly identify common skin tumors such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma; outline basic management plans including the method of biopsy, appropriate management, and patient follow up intervals.
- Utilize Mohs Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) to determine which common skin cancers are appropriate for referral to Mohs surgery.
- Describe Mohs micrographic surgery tissue processing and how it leads to enhanced tumor detection
