2024 Resident Rowing Retreat

Last month, UW Dermatology's residents and program leadership team hit the water for their annual team-building rowing retreat! 

From Steph Timm, Manager of Dermatology Education & Training Programs:

“The UW Derm Residency program team-building rowing retreat is a tradition started by Roy Colven nearly 10 years ago, and carried forward by our new leadership, co-program directors Markus Boos and Lisa Maier. Sixteen of us split up into two boats—one team named themselves The O(a)rfs with a tagline “Our vibe is contagious!” and the other team named themselves “Bet On It” (their boat was named Betty). We took the boats and oars out, got into the boats without tipping over, and out on the water, practiced rowing by twos, fours, sixes, and all eight. We watched a seal swim by, and road the wakes of yacht and tugboats going by. No one fell in! The only time we got wet was when we got the boats back out of the water, turned them upside down over our heads to put them away in the boat house when all the water at the bottom rained onto our heads. Rowing is wonderfully humbling team activity—none of us knows what we are doing, and we are learning and working together."
