Dr. Soo Jung Kim Joins UW Dermatology Faculty
Please join us in welcoming Soo Jung "SJ" Kim, MD, PhD, MBA, (she/her) to the Department of Dermatology as an Associate Professor of Clinical Practice and dermatologist based at the Eastside Specialty Center and Roosevelt Dermatology Clinic.
Dr. Kim will also serve as the Medical Director for the Eastside Specialty Center Dermatology Clinic.
Dr. Kim earned her BS from Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul, South Korea, in 1998. In 2005, she completed both her PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from Northwestern University and her MS from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago. She then completed her MD in 2009 from Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University. Dr. Kim completed her medical internship at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York in 2010, and then her dermatology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 2013.
Dr. Kim served as the Dermatology Residency Program Director for Baylor from 2019 until 2023, where she was highly effective in growing the stature and impact of the training program. She also recently earned her Master of Business Administration at Rice University in Houston in 2025.
Dr. Kim brings extensive clinical experience in dermatology. Since 2013, Dr. Kim has been a practicing physician at several academic medical centers, including Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas. Since 2016, she has served at Baylor University, St. Luke’s Medical Center in Houston, and the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston. In addition, Dr. Kim has initiated innovative programs such as a free clinic and a transplant dermatology clinic.
In her free time, she enjoys exercising, skiing, and hiking in nature. She has also traveled to numerous countries and values building meaningful relationships with people.
