2025-26 Chief Residents Announced
The UW Department of Dermatology is proud to announce our co-chief residents for the 2025-26 academic year, Caitlin Brumfiel, MD, and Heather Mahurin, MD!
Our new chief residents assumed their responsibilities on March 1, 2025, allowing for a limited amount of overlap with the current co-chiefs, Lindsay Gunnell, MD, and Charlotte Read, MBBS, PhD, before the new academic year begins in June.
Chief residents are an essential part of UW Dermatology’s Residency Program, providing invaluable leadership, teaching, and support for our trainees.
As co-chiefs, Drs. Brumfiel and Mahurin will primarily be working on scheduling, curriculum, and educational experiences for the upcoming academic year.
We look forward to working with Drs. Brumfiel and Mahurin, and are excited for the leadership they will bring to the program.

Thank You Outgoing Chief Residents
We would like to recognize the extraordinary efforts of our outgoing chiefs, Drs. Lindsay Gunnell, and Charlotte Read!
Drs. Gunnell and Read have demonstrated incredible leadership while in their roles, working to maintain the proactive, compassionate support and mentoring of the resident class from day one of orientation to ongoing weekly chief briefs and regularly checking in with residents individually.
Dr. Gunnell lead didactic curriculum planning, creating a robust program of faculty-led presentations, as well as bi-weekly kodachromes sessions, and worked with faculty to give 2nd and 3rd year residents board preparation sessions.
Dr. Read developed the schedules for the year, as well as organizing cosmetics after hours sessions, and leading the residents in navigating new requirements around consent forms.
Both chiefs served as interviewers during resident selection season, served on the curriculum planning workgroup, and provided essential leadership during weekly Resident Education Committee meetings.
We cannot thank them enough for their leadership and service—they have made this residency program better on every level.
