Each year, the UW Department of Dermatology proudly welcomes fellows from across the country to engage in our clinical, research, and educational programs. As our latest cohort nears the end of their training, we invited our fellows to reflect on their experiences and share their aspirations for the next chapter of their professional journey.

Caroline RaymundoPlease join us in bidding a warm farewell to Caroline Raymundo, MS, who joined UW Dermatology in May 2024 as a Medical Dermatology Research Fellow supporting the work of Michi Shinohara, MD, Professor and Vice Chair of UW Dermatology.

Caroline is a rising fourth-year medical student at the University of Washington School of Medicine and currently serves as an International Dermatology Outcome Measures Research Fellow for the Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma Workgroup. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology with a minor in Anthropology from the University of Washington in 2017, followed by a Master of Science in Medical Science from Brown University in 2021.

"Caroline's leaves not only a legacy of research projects but also charming crochet gifts. I will also miss seeing her Frenchies Bruce and Mimi on Zoom every week. This goodbye won't be for long, though; Caroline will be back in a few short months on her dermatology rotation at HMC which we look forward to!" —Dr. Michi Shinohara

Farewell Q&A

What are your post-fellowship plans?

I am returning to clinical rotations to complete my 4th year of medical school at the University of Washington.

What did you enjoy most about your fellowship experience?

I enjoyed getting to know the wonderful faculty and staff at UW dermatology and the patients at the cutaneous lymphoma clinic. I had the opportunity to conduct multiple qualitative interview studies with patients, which allowed the unique opportunity to speak with patients 1-on-1 during an hour-long interview. I felt honored to hear the patients’ stories and to learn more about their personal life and their life with cutaneous lymphoma.

What accomplishments are you most proud of?

I’m proud of our publication in the British Journal of Dermatology on health-related quality of life in cutaneous t-cell lymphoma and launching the electronic-Delphi rounds, which will help our group develop a core quality of life outcome set for clinical trials.

Who were your mentors and how did they support you?

I am so lucky to say that Dr. Michi Shinohara was my mentor! I feel so grateful that I’ve had the opportunity to work with Dr. Shinohara. I always felt like she had my best interest in mind and encouraged me to grow. Her kindness, professionalism, and compassion make me so excited about a career in medicine. She is the best role model that I could ask for.

Fun aspect of training or a favorite memory?

Anything that had to do with animals: meeting everyone’s dogs at the summer BBQ, making a hat for Dr. Shinohara’s cat, therapy bunnies at the Derm retreat!
