Dr. Mariam Alam Joins UW Dermatology Faculty

Please join us in welcoming back our former Co-Chief Resident, Mariam Alam, MD, (she/her/hers) to the Department of Dermatology as a Clinical Assistant Professor and dermatologist based at Harborview Medical Center!  

Mariam Alam Dr. Alam has a clinical interest in autoinflammatory and autoimmune disorders, with a special emphasis on granulomatous diseases. She plans to further her interests with the establishment of a Granulomatous Disease Clinic in the Department of Dermatology.  

Dr. Alam joins us after recently graduating from UW Dermatology’s residency program in 2024. During her residency training, Dr. Alam utilized her background in internal medicine to enhance her skills in managing complex dermatologic cases. She is deeply interested in wellness and was actively involved in committees and workgroups aimed at enhancing the department including the UW Graduate Medical Education Parenthood Peer Mentorship Program, the UW Dermatology Justice, Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (JEDI) Committee, and the UW Dermatology Volunteerism Committee. She excelled in her duties as Chief Resident and received high praise for her mentorship of both medical students and residents.  

Dr. Alam earned her BS in Interdisciplinary Studies: Health & Society at Bates College in 2010. She earned her MD at Tufts University School of Medicine in 2015. After completing her MD, Dr. Alam completed her Internal Medicine Residency in 2019 at the University of Washington, followed by a year as an internal medicine chief resident. She practiced as a hospitalist for two years at University of Washington Medical Center-Northwest Hospital and then at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Alam returned to the University of Washington in 2021 to start her Dermatology Residency and graduated from the program in 2024. Dr. Alam was chief resident during the senior year of her dermatology residency. 

In her time outside of work Dr. Alam enjoys spending time with her husband and their two daughters, reading, and staying active with yoga, running, and skiing. 

Dr. Alam brings a wealth of institutional knowledge, a passion for learning, and a strong dedication to patient care and research. We look forward to witnessing her continued growth as an educator and physician here at UW Dermatology!
