In response to the national backlash against JEDI (justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion) initiatives in higher education aimed at fighting systemic racism, the UW Department of Dermatology would like to reaffirm our unshakable commitment to JEDI principles in patient care, training, and research.

The UW Department of Dermatology values diversity and recognizes it as central to providing outstanding patient care and an open, inclusive environment in which to work and learn. We are committed to increasing opportunity and promoting diversity through recruitment and advancement of diverse faculty, trainees, and staff. We strive to cultivate a respectful, safe, and equitable environment for all.

Studies have shown that healthcare workforce diversity results in higher quality care for underserved populations, improved patient-doctor relationships, greater patient satisfaction and improved health. At UW Dermatology we recognize that JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) education is an important part of training all providers to deliver high quality, culturally humble care for a variety of communities. As such, we stand strongly in support of the American Academy of Dermatology’s (AAD) JEDI efforts, which we believe will help to prepare our current and future workforce to provide all patients with the best care possible.
