Please join us in congratulating Christopher "CJ" Johnson, Simpson Lab researcher and second-year medical student at the WWAMI Montana site in Bozeman, on winning the Physician-Scientist Support Foundation (PSSF) Medical Scholars Research Fellowship (MSRF) award for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Christopher Johnson Christopher is one of only five students in the nation selected to receive a one-year fellowship award for full-time research and a stipend.

The PSSF Medical Scholars Research Fellowship provides research opportunities and mentoring to students who aspire to become physician-scientists and are dedicated to making fundamental discoveries that improve health. The fellowship will allow Christopher to continue his research with the Simpson Lab, led by Cory Simpson, MD, PhD, Principal Investigator and Assistant Professor in the UW Division of Dermatology.

Christopher previously worked as a research scientist at the Center for Translational Medicine at the University of Montana in Missoula before starting medical school through the University of Washington School of Medicine's WWAMI Medical Education Program,  a partnership including the states of Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho. During his summer break from the Foundations phase of medical school in Bozeman, Montana, he began working in the Simpson Lab in Seattle through the UW Independent Investigative Inquiry (III) Program. This experience inspired his application for the Medical Scholars Research Fellowship, which will support him for a full year of laboratory research starting in Summer 2023.
