BIOGRAPHY
Josiah Hanson, MD, (he/him/his) is a board-certified dermatologist at the UW Medical Center–Roosevelt Dermatology Center and the Fred Hutch Cancer Center. He is an Acting Assistant Professor in the UW Department of Dermatology and serves as the Medical Student Clerkship Director.
Originally from Saint Paul, Minn., Dr. Hanson received his MD from the UW School of Medicine in 2017. His postgraduate training includes an internship in Internal Medicine at Virginia Mason Medical Center, and residency in dermatology in the UW Department of Dermatology, where he served as co-chief resident. During his residency, Dr. Hanson developed an interest in dermatopathology and has conducted research on PRAME expression in non-pigmented skin cancers. In 2023, Dr. Hanson completed a fellowship in dermatopathology at Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania.
Dr. Hanson’s clinical interests include dermatopathology, oncodermatology, and skin cancer. He is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatopathology, and the Seattle Dermatology Society.
Outside of medicine, he enjoys hiking the mountains of the Pacific Northwest and canoeing on the lakes of Northern Minnesota. He also enjoys collecting rare and unusual house plants with a menagerie of over 120 varieties that help keep the company of his cats, the rambunctious 'Chicksticks,' silly ‘Popover,’ regal ‘Earl Grey,’ and cuddly ‘Marionberry.’
