Congratulations to the 2026 Promoted Faculty Members

The UW Department of Dermatology announces seven new faculty appointments. 

Each faculty member exemplifies outstanding service and dedication to the department’s mission and values. Please join us in congratulating our colleagues as they begin this exciting next chapter. We look forward to the continued impact they will make in their new roles.


Cory SimpsonDr. Cory Simpson Promoted to Associate Professor

Dr. Simpson is an exemplary physician-scientist whose work integrates rigorous mechanistic research with direct clinical relevance to dermatologic disease. He joined UW Dermatology in 2021 and has built a robust and independently funded research program while maintaining an active clinical and teaching portfolio.

Dr. Simpson's mentorship cultivates excellence among students and trainees; and his collaborative leadership enhances departmental cohesion. His colleagues describe him as a trusted clinical expert, a generous mentor, and a departmental citizen who consistently raises the standard of excellence.  


Song ParkDr. Song Park Promoted to Associate Professor  

Dr. Park is an exceptionally skilled academic dermatologist whose work reflects the integration of advanced clinical care, impactful scholarship, and meaningful mentorship. She joined UW Dermatology in 2020 and has expanded her research leadership while maintaining high-volume clinical and teaching roles.

Dr. Park bridges clinical observation with evidence-driven inquiry, translating research insights into better outcomes for patients and more relevant learning experiences for trainees. Dr. Park consistently takes on roles and challenges that others might not, approaching them with grace, creativity, and enthusiasm.


Anna CogenDr. Anna Cogen Promoted to Associate Professor  

Dr. Cogen’s contributions have strengthened the department’s regional reputation in complex medical dermatology and supportive oncodermatology, while also fostering a more inclusive and engaged learning environment for trainees. She became a faculty member at UW Dermatology in 2019 and was promoted to assistant professor in 2021.

Dr. Cogen's colleagues consistently commend her diagnostic precision, composure under pressure, and compassionate care. She has also earned a reputation as one of the department’s most inspiring and effective educators.


Eleanor KnoppDr. Eleanor Knopp promoted to Clinical Associate Professor – Volunteer  

Dr. Knopp has achieved national recognition in the field of alopecia and dermatopathology. She joined UW Dermatology in 2014 as a volunteer faculty member and currently serves as the Director of the Alopecia Clinic and Dermatopathology Lead at Kaiser Permanente.

Dr. Knopp demonstrates outstanding professionalism through her unwavering commitment to teaching and mentorship of UW trainees. She regularly expands her volunteer teaching efforts to meet trainee interest and departmental needs. Her reliability, responsiveness, and proactive engagement make her a highly valued volunteer faculty member.



Markus BoosDr. Markus Boos Promoted to Professor

Dr. Boos is widely regarded as an outstanding, nationally prominent pediatric dermatologist with exceptional skills, resulting in referrals from across the region and nation. He joined UW Dermatology in 2023 and has been certified in Dermatology since 2014.

Dr. Boos is known as a compassionate and highly skilled physician, and for his excellent bedside manner with patients and their families as well as a natural, genuine exuberance for teaching trainees. He is the expert in the dermatologic care of LGBTQ patients, as well as the effect of climate change on dermatology. His patients rave about him, and his colleagues anoint him a “Top Doc” on a regular basis.


Andrea KalusDr. Andrea Kalus Promoted to Professor

Dr. Kalus has built national recognition as a leader in both complex autoimmune skin disease and the medical humanities, cultivating an approach to dermatology that unites rigorous scientific reasoning with humanistic care. She joined UW Dermatology in 2006 and has held multiple leadership position in the department.

Colleagues describe her as “brilliant, thoughtful, and compassionate.” Trainees consistently cite her as a role model for diagnostic precision, communication, and empathy. She is also a consistent and committed advocate for diversity, inclusion, and patient-centered care.


Michi ShinoharaDr. Michi Shinohara Awarded Tenure

Dr. Shinohara’s leadership has strengthened the faculty community, enhanced mentorship and equity structures, and positioned the department as a national leader in academic dermatology. She began her career at UW Dermatology in 2009 where she has held several major leadership roles, including Executive Vice Chair of Dermatology.

Dr. Shinohara has been selected as a Seattle Top Doctor every year since 2017, reflecting her reputation for diagnostic mastery, compassion, and professionalism. Faculty peers described her as “an outstanding diagnostician whose precision and compassion set the bar for clinical excellence” and “a role model for how clinical judgment and empathy should coexist.”
