Positions

There are 4 advanced clinical positions open for July 1, 2026.

how to apply

The University of Washington accepts applications only through the ERAS system from applicants registered for the NRMP Match. Incomplete, late, or paper applications will not be considered.

We welcome applications from International Medical Graduates.

The University of Washington Dermatology Residency Program will be matching for 4 residents to start July 1, 2026.

A complete application, received through the ERAS system by Friday, September 27, 2024 includes:

  • ERAS Common Application Form
  • Personal Statement (1-2 pages)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Official Medical School Transcripts
  • Dean’s Letter (Medical School Performance Evaluation)
  • Three Letters of Reference – from faculty, mentors, or supervisors who know you well and can address your performance. One of these would ideally be from an academic Dermatologist and address your performance in Dermatology and commitment to the study of Dermatology. A 4th letter can be included if it provides new information about your qualifications. More than one letter from a Dermatologist is also acceptable, but one is all that is necessary.
  • USMLE or COMLEX Scores (a minimum of Step 1 completed). We require applicants to have passed USMLE 1, and encourage taking Step 2. USMLE scores are only a minor component of one's application.

If your application is incomplete for any reason by September 27, 2024, it will not be reviewed.

Due to the large number of applications to our program, we cannot offer any feedback on individual applications.

Post-interview communication of preference – including “letters of intent” and thank you letters – should not be sent to our program. These types of communication will not be used in decision-making.

General information for interested applicants

Program Signaling

While historically we have performed holistic review on all applications, depending on the number of applications received, it may not be feasible this year. In the last two cycles, applicants who signaled our program were more likely to receive an interview invite. During this cycle, all applicants who signal our program (either gold or silver tokens) will be reviewed holistically. Whether we are able to review the remaining non-signal applications will depend on the number of applications and signals received. For this reason, if you are not planning to signal our program, please consider whether it is worth applying.

Commitment to Equity, Diversity & Inclusion

As part of the University of Washington’s School of Medicine, we are committed to building and sustaining a multicultural community that fosters equity, diversity and inclusion. We believe that this is achieved by intentionally creating opportunities for involvement, participation and growth for each individual and by nurturing a positive institutional climate through professional development, education, policy and practice. Our objective is to create a community that encourages participation and connection, and that values each individual's unique contribution, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, language, nationality, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, spiritual practice, geography, mental and physical status and age.

Resident Reflections

“Since joining UW Dermatology as a resident just over a year ago, I have been blown away by the incredibly talented and genuine people I get to work with and learn from every day. The breadth of clinical experiences is incredible and by the end of residency, this program prepares you to competently take care of patients in any clinical setting. One of my favorite aspects of UW Dermatology is the opportunity to participate in sub-committees with faculty and administrative staff focusing on wellness, volunteerism, JEDI and more within the department.”

— Sidney Hoskins, MD (she/her), Class of 2024
