overview
Our program’s mission is to cultivate compassionate, professional, and inquisitive future leaders and expert dermatologists. The dermatology residency program consists of three years of clinically oriented instruction with the trainee rotating through all the hospitals in the University of Washington system, as well as the Puget Sound Veterans Hospital and Seattle Children's Hospital. The curriculum includes clinical mentorship by full-time faculty and training with over two dozen clinical faculty. Residents practice at outpatient clinics, hospital ward rounds, and teaching conferences. Resident Reflections
"I could not be happier to train at UW for my dermatology residency. UW Dermatology's greatest strength is the people that make up the division. The faculty are incredibly supportive and dedicated teachers who treat the residents as people first. I am continually inspired by my co-residents and love the collaborative, fun learning environment we have created as a group. A major strength of training at UW is the diversity of training sites and the large catchment area especially if you love a good zebra case. Plus, Seattle is an amazing and beautiful place to live!" —Mariam Alam, MD, third-year resident, 2023-24 Chief Resident
